ROUND ONE OF OAKLEY PRO 09 AT CANGGU COMPLETED TODAY

18 August 2009, Canggu-Bali : The first round of the Oakley Pro 09 was completed today at Canggu in solid 4-5 foot surf, with some larger 6 foot sets closing out the beach on occasion. The action got underway at just after 7:30 and finished up at about 11:00, as the wind coupled with a fast dropping tide had conditions deteriorating rapidly causing the Contest Directors to throw up the red flag and call it a day.

With 12 days remaining in the 16 day waiting period that began on the 15th of August, there is no need hurry and rush through the event. The goal of the Oakley crew is to hold the competition in the very best waves possible, so as the swell forecast looks very good for the next 4-5 days, so its reasonable to expect that event could run over the next several days in excellent conditions.

Canggu is subject to strong side shore winds picking up towards mid day during these peak months of July through September, so the first half of the day will see the majority of the action throughout the event unless there are days when the wind comes later or (hopefully) fails to make an appearance.

A standby call has gone out for those surfers competing in Round 2 to be ready to go at 6:30 am tomorrow (Wednesday) morning. See attached heat draw for the Day 2 matchups.
